The real Gran Turismo?

Time AttackI'm utterly intrigued by Time Attack. Never heard of it? Well, imagine the maddest cars from Gran Turismo battling it out for real on some of the UK's best circuits.

We're talking Skylines with more power than Enzos, Imprezas with more power than Gallardos, and an assorted array of humble Japanese sports cars that have been tuned, seemingly, by NASA.

There is, and I kid you not, a Toyota MR2 entered this year that has more than 500bhp.

The rules, available at www.timeattack.co.uk make fascinating reading. Competitors can use pretty much any car, as long as it has a VIN plate, and there is no maximum power limit.

And check out Paragraph 3-2:

'Use of power adders, such as turbo/s, superchargers, nitrous oxide or combinations thereof, are free.'

Fantastic. Sound like no-rules racing to me.

But where Time Attack really appeals is in its 'Sprint' format. The competitors don't race against each other - they race against the clock.

So the only person who can damage their car is the person driving it.

In Japan, Time Attack (or Tuner Battles) is big news. Some of the big tuners even hire pro drivers. Then it dawned on me that here at TG we have our own pro 'Time Attack' driver. His name is the Stig.

Anyone want to lend him a lightweight R34 Skyline with nitrous and a turbo the size of the London Eye for the next round at Silverstone on June 3?
