Good evening

Posted by Nick Trott at 9:00PM on Saturday 14 June, 2008 0 Comments

Early night Le MansTwo minutes ago, fellow TG-er Jamie Hibbard asked if I wanted to put another blog together - an update of the race so far, that kind of thing.

Then, directly in front of our eyes, the leading Peugeot driven but Christian Klien spun at the chicane while attempting to pass a backmarker.

So, apologies for the delay, but I've just spent the last few minutes watching the marshals extract the big Pug from the gravel trap.

Finally, with the help of a recovery vehicle that would look more at home in a scrap yard, the 908 was back on the tarmac - all under yellows.

Once freed, the Pug reversed back onto the track - nearly causing another accident.

So, Klein lost three and half minutes - and the lead - to the number 2 Audi of McNish, Kristensen and Capello. But hang on! Marc Gene's Peugeot has just taken the lead as I write this!

Lemme explain; the racing in all classes is so tight that whenever someone pits the lead changes.

The result is a crackling, fizzing, unbelievable atmosphere here trackside.

Only a few will venture a prediction, after all there's only 14 hours to go...

The Aston Martin team, currently leading LMGT1, have just figured out that Corvette can run a lap longer on fuel.

The net result? Aston will require three more pitstops than the 'vettes - not good.

'We're hoping for rain,' said an engineer I spoke to.

And guess what? Rain is forecast for the next hour...
