McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has won the Hungarian Grand Prix, rising above a controversy in qualifying that saw team-mate Fernando Alonso stripped of pole position.
Alonso's was dropped to sixth on the grid for blocking Hamilton in the pit lane.
It all started a few laps earlier during qualifying when Hamilton ignored calls from the team to let Alonso - who was running a different fuel burn strategy - through.
Hamilton and team boss Ron Dennis had a row over the radio, while Alonso fumed.
When Alonso came into the pits to prepare for his last flying lap he waited 10 seconds after the lollipop was raised before leaving the box.
Thing is, Hamilton was waiting behind Alonso and was sufficiently delayed to prevent his own flyer.
We may never know the truth about what happened next - did the team hold him back or was it solely Alonso's decision (read blog)?
The stewards looked at the incident closely before throwing out McLaren's claims that the delay was merely due to a communication occurring between the team and Alonso.
The Spaniard was thus docked five places on the grid and the team forced to forfeit its constructors' points for 'actions... considered prejudicial to the interests of the competition and to the interests of motor sport generally'.
And so to the race...
Hamilton, now starting on pole, got a good start from the clean side of the grid. Heidfeld's BMW, promoted to second, was jumped by Kimi Raikonnen's Ferrari.
It soon emerged that Hamilton and Kimi were the class of the field. The pair eked out a lead, with Lewis initially faring better on the relatively 'green' track.
However, as the race progressed the Ferrari began to pick up pace and Kimi started to put pressure on Hamilton.
The McLaren driver resisted and drove a calculated pace on a circuit where overtaking is virtually impossible to take a deeply impressive victory. Not once did the rookie look flustered or liable to make a mistake.
Bearded wonder Nick Heidfeld came third, while Alonso jumped up to fourth after spending the majority of the race stuck behind Ralf Schumacher's Toyota.
Alonso charged from lights to flag and ran wide on numerous occasions, but despite hunting down Heidfeld over the last few laps, the final podium slot was just out of reach.
Felipe Massa in the second Ferrari had a mare. Starting 14th after the team forgot to refuel the car during qualifying, Massa could only make up one position in the race.
Ferrari boss Jean Todt was not happy: "A second and 13th place are a meagre reward for this weekend," he said.
The F1 boys now head for Turkey on August 26 with Alonso and Hamilton reportedly 'not speaking', McLaren appealing against the decision not to reward constructors' points at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Massa dropping out of the championship hunt and the 'spy' drama still bubbling away.
